Kwame's discovery: "I'm not lazy, I learn differently"
For six years, Kwame was labeled lazy and disruptive. Teachers moved him to the back of the class. His parents grew frustrated. But when PlusOne Charities screened him using internationally recognized assessment tools, the truth emerged: Kwame had dyslexia—not a character flaw, but a different way of learning.
With a tailored intervention plan and his mother enrolled in our Family Empowerment workshops, everything shifted. His mother learned specific strategies to support him at home. Kwame discovered audiobooks and multisensory learning. In six months, he advanced two grade levels.
"Now I know I'm not stupid. My brain is just wired differently. And that's okay."
— Kwame, age 11
